roots and identity
more than 80 years of history
Established in 1931 as Cantina Cooperativa di Mezzolombardo, the actual winery was created in 1968 by the merger with another local wine-cooperative, the Società Enologica Rotaliana.
This new wine-cooperative changed its trading name to Cantina Rotaliana di Mezzolombardo and started to play a very proactive role in the rural economy of Mezzolombardo.
In fact, joining this democratically-controlled enterprise, small vine-growers could have met their common economic, social, and cultural needs.

from the 70's to the 90's
time of changes
The winery traded for a number of years with a backdrop of many changes including the introduction of new modern equipments and wine-making techniques.
In the early ’70s Cantina Rotaliana committed to promoting Trentino wines, focusing on innovation, tradition and environmental awareness. The winery expanded its business from the sale of bulk wine to a wide selection of high quality bottled wines, born to meet the needs of its customers, especially those involved in the increasingly expanding tourist flow to Trentino and its mountains (hotels, restaurants and wine-shops).
In 1980 Cantina Rotaliana was the first Trentino winery to use the carbonic maceration process and to produce Novello, the new wine obtained from Teroldego grapes.
In the early ‘90s, the cooperative expanded its headquarters, located in Mezzolombardo city centre, with the addition of new fermentation and ageing rooms. Nevertheless, the increasingly expanding volume of Cantina Rotaliana business, number of stakeholders (292 vine-growers) and quantity of grapes processed, drove the board to find new headquarters.

the new Cantina Rotaliana
In 1999 the winery started to build its new head office where Cantina Rotaliana moved in August 2002. Located right outside Mezzolombardo, this prestigious architectural development was capable of rapidly meeting the demand of an increasingly expanding and competitive international market.
In 2011 this new head-office, equipped with modern production and storage areas, stunning wine-cellars and elegant marketing areas, was further expanded. The new investment culminated in the opening of multi-functional spaces of over 5.000 square meters which host new fermentation, storage and ageing areas, together with tasting and meeting rooms.
All this makes Cantina Rotaliana a competitive wine-producer, able to respond to the challenges of global markets.
